Music everywhere

July 23, 2013

I completed a project this morning that has been in the works on and off for over a year. With the 8 CD’s I ripped this morning, I have finally digitized all of the music in our home and uploaded it to Google Play Music. There was quite a bit of it. Much more than I had anticipated when I first got the inkling to open up all those boxes of CD’s and put the music they contained in a place that we could use it.

For those wondering, the final tally for what we have is as follows:

  • 646 Albums; or
  • 8,474 songs; or
  • 594 hours and 33 minutes; or
  • just under 25 days; or
  • nearly 205 GBs of data (I ripped it all into FLAC)

It’s A LOT of music.

The ultimate goal is to be able to play all of this music out of an old radio that I’m going to mod into an internet connected streaming player. I bought it for Michele’s birthday, and I’ve started buying the components to build it. For now, we have access on the go using the Google Play Music service and at home it can easily be played through our XBMC media center.

All in all, it was a fun project that has allowed us (especially me) to rediscover a lot of music that hadn’t been listened too in a long time. I’ll have updates on the radio project as it develops, so stay tuned.

Get it? Stay tuned? Like a radio? Ok…
