Baseball is on my television again

March 26, 2013

MLB.TV has finally updated for the PS3, and as a result I’m watching my first Yankee game of Spring Training right now. They are playing the lowly Houston Astros, and are getting beaten 4-0. This is no surprise, as they’ve had a pretty rough March full of injuries and bad news.

That said, I’m still relatively optimistic about the season. I think the Orioles are the best team in the AL East, but they should still take a step back from last year. The Blue Jays need to prove to me that they’re something other than “Miami Marlins 2.0” before I’ll take them seriously. And the Rays should be decent, but they’ll have to do it with young talent again, and that only gets you so far. As for the Red Sox; frankly, the AL East is more interesting when they’re good. But they’re not very good (and I’m content with that).

I expect the Yankees to win about 90 games this season. Their pitching is still very good – though also pretty old – and as long as the injury issues don’t continue to compound themselves I think they can still score enough runs to compete.

And see? As I typed that last sentence Brett Gardner hit a run scoring triple to the gap. Maybe this won’t be a down year after all.

I think the Red Sox will be better than everyone thinks…

You know, I wouldn’t be surprised if they were better. I think Yankee fans and Red Sox fans should both take the “don’t get your hope up this year” approach though. That’s what makes it fun, they have to play the games and we’ll see where we end up.

Let me know what you think
