Springfield, here I come

I have decided to re-watch The Simpsons in its entirety.  I don’t know why this came to me this morning, but it’s a grand idea and one I will pursue with great fervor (in my spare time, of course – the episodes are only like 22 minutes long). I’ve begun collecting the episodes digitally through, um, various sources including but not limited to the multiple seasons I already own on DVD. Those are a bit of a pain to rip, but it can be done. I have a hard drive and I’m not afraid to use it.

The Simpsons has always been one of my favorite shows, and I know I’ve missed a ton of the more recent ones. I’m especially excited because there are so many pop-culture references in the show that I’m sure I didn’t get the first time through as a kid. I really think watching through them again is going to be a blast.

As time goes on I will likely mention particular episodes that I’ve re-watched on this blog, though I certainly won’t be giving a play by play for every one of them. But I have put a special tag on this post – “The great Simpsons re-watch” – and might even put a link to that in the sidebar somewhere for future reference. We’ll see how that goes.

PS – I had thought about doing this with others as well, but that’s a bit of a commitment and I’m not sure how the logistics of it would really work. If you have any ideas though (I’m looking at you Matt), I’m open to them.

Oh man, I have almost nothing to do on any given day, but this is still pretty daunting. Granted each episode is only 22 minutes, but there are 24 seasons of those 22 minute episodes, 519 in total… and counting, you’re looking at well over 10,000 minutes. I’ll give it a shot, but I already have a pretty full slate of video games and reddit in front of me, not making any promises.

    How far in are you?
