Tucker Max on the future of books

February 1, 2013

Here is a really interesting (but short) interview with Tucker Max – he’s the I Hope they Serve Beer in Hell guy – where he discusses the changes being seen in the publishing industry. I think he does a good job diagnosing many of the problems, and he seems to be on the right track with where the future could lead us too.

A quote:

when we get companies that mix the professionalism of publishing services with the full breadth of creativity and complete artistic control by authors – that’s when the golden age will really begin.

Note that he is not, as many are, writing bookstores out the picture. People still like physical books – lots of people. They will continue to sell. Thus the real question isn’t who will be selling books in the future, it’s who will be publishing them?
