Let’s all try something new

August 21, 2012

Fun fact: I once finished writing a short story that I really liked.

It’s not particularly long, and it’s one that I had to go back into the vault (i.e. Google Docs) to find. Some of you have likely even seen it before. That said, for what I want to try today it seemed like it would be perfect. But I’m getting ahead of myself, so let’s take a step back.

I got an email today from a newly launching service called Sohawk. It’s basically an online distribution service for digital media. And the idea is that it’s dead simple to use for both buyers and sellers. I drag and drop any file I want to sell, they generate a unique link to a personalized payment page for me, and then I share that link anywhere and with anyone I want. It’s supposed to work with any digital file that creators want to sell to their audience.

A few months ago I’d given my email as someone who’d be interested in signing up when they went live. Well, that time has come. Alpha testing started yesterday and I’m going to do my bit. Which, of course,  brings us back to that short story I mentioned.

I’m uploading my little story about a boy named Horace. I wrote it as a practice in dialogue, and I think it turned out pretty nice. Hopefully nice enough to be worth the very low price of $1 that I’m asking for it. I’m not expecting to make much of a profit here (although it cost me nothing but time to produce), but I am excited by this new service. And all I’m asking for is a dollar if you’re interested in reading my story.

Feedback on this one would be much appreciated – both for me and for the folks over at Sohawk. It is in alpha, so if you have issues with anything please let me know in the comments. And also let me know what you think of the story while you’re at it.

So that’s it, a little experiment for us. Feel free to share the link too if you really love it and know someone else you think will love it too.

OK. No more waiting: Go get my story! (it’s a .pdf so you can read it pretty much where ever you like)
