A new piece of a short story for your Monday
A couple of months ago I decided that I would use Monday to highlight something that I’d written in the past week that I liked. I stopped doing it for a few weeks – mostly because I just didn’t write all that much – but now I want to get back into it.
Here’s a paragraph from a story I just started. The main character is a kid who is at his first day at a church summer camp. He’s not happy about it.
I tried my best to convince one of the other boys that the plastic phone I’d found in the corner with the other toys was actually a direct line to God himself. He didn’t really believe me. But the little girl standing next to him watched with wide eyes as I carried on one side of an entire conversation that ended with me saying that, no, I wasn’t sure if the other kids had gotten the message. Yes, I understood that the reason the Challenger had exploded earlier in the year was because outer space was now off limits. And that I certainly would do my best to let everyone in camp know by using the burning bush method that He was already so famous for.
That’s all you get.
