Here’s a blurb from a short story I’m writing

March 5, 2012

Mondays are always a difficult day for the blog. I get up early in the morning for a meeting at work, then once I get home we usually do dinner, and since I’m now finally working out more it means that I don’t have a lot of time left over to write. Moreover, what time I do have I’d rather spend working on whatever my current fiction project is.

So, here’s what I’m thinking. Instead of a blog post on Mondays, I’ll just put up something that I’ve written in the past week that I like. I’m not saying that it will be the best thing I’ve written in the previous week, or that it will even end up in any particular finished product, just that it’s something I’ve done which I happen to enjoy.

Today’s entry is the current opening to a very short story I’m working on:

Somewhere, deep below the earth, in a tiny room built for a single purpose, a man sat bound and gagged. Where his bruised and jaundiced skin was exposed through torn and rough spun clothing, it was bloody; and long, rust red streaks stained the cold, gray floor beneath his feet.

Still, he breathed.

Hopefully you’ll all let me know what you think, and then we can do it all over again next week too.
