Ah! A string of bad coincidences mean that the curse of Friday the 13th is upon me!
I came home after a trying day at work today and dozed off on the couch, only to wake up in one of those startled – Where am I? This place is weird! Oh wait, it’s just my living room. What the hell just happened? – kind of moments. And upon doing so I have found that the world is falling to pieces around me.
First, 81 year old Gene Hackman was hit by a car while riding his bike in Florida today. He seems to be all right, but who the hell hits Gene Hackman with their car? He’s Lex Luthor! Now he’s going to go find some Kryptonite and try to kill Superman so he can take over the world. In other news, 81 year old Gene Hackman was out riding his bike today. What did you do, you lazy shit?
Second, the Yankees – the coldest pan on the hot stove this baseball off-season – have gone and traded away their best prospect in years for a dude I’ve never heard of from the Seattle Mariners. And by the way, I went to see a Mariners game last year – in Seattle. I checked the schedule, and he pitched both the day after we got to Seattle and the day we left Seattle. He pitched twice while I was there and his name doesn’t even ring a bell. I was really looking forward to the Yankees having the rookie of the year this year. I guess I’ll just have to get used to them having another pitcher we can all boo at some point in June instead.
And third, UPS has lost the copy of the Lord of the Rings Blu-Ray box set that I ordered from Best Buy. According to the tracking page, it was delivered to my parent’s “rear door” yesterday afternoon, but this is certainly not the case. And I know my parents didn’t steal it from me either (though I wouldn’t put it past them – I’ll never forgive you for throwing out my LEGO’s, Mother!) because they don’t have a Blu-ray player. They did get a package yesterday for some random neighbor I guess. So now I have to call UPS in the morning and sort that all out. Not what I wanted to do on a Saturday morning before I have to go back to work.
How was your day though?
