Is the Daily Show pulling our leg?
I posted a video on my Facebook page yesterday from the Daily Show. It’s of Aasif Mandvi, and he’s finding out what scientists are “up to.” It’s pretty funny, and worth a view. But the reason I mention it now is that after I watched the Global Warming denier that Mandvi interviewed be not so subtly made fun of to her face, I wondered why people continue to go on this show when they have an agenda that they know won’t play well with the people who make it.
Seriously, the Daily Show has a left-leaning political bent. There’s no doubt about that. And because it’s really a comedy show anyway, who cares? But why in the world would you, as a conservative or person otherwise likely to be made fun of, bother to sit down for an interview with them at all?
How would that conversation even happen?
DS producer: Hey, we’d love to have you come on and talk about something we don’t agree with.
Guy to be made fun of: No, way, Daily Show! You’re going to make fun of me and make me look bad.
DS producer: Nah, we won’t do that to you. We promise.
Guy to be made fun of: Oh, ok, since you sound so sincere this time. As long as you promise, I’ll come on the show.
DS producer: Sucker…
That’s how I imagine it anyway.
