Fulfill my birthday wishes and “like” my new Facebook page!

September 1, 2011

If the above title appears that I’m shamelessly using my birthday to get lots of people to join my new Facebook page, well, that’s good. Because that’s exactly what I’m doing. See that little box over on the right hand side? Hit the like button that’s right smack in the middle of it. It would really make my birthday dreams come true. I’ll wait…

…ok, that wasn’t so hard, was it? Thanks.

Now onto why I’ve gone and made myself a Facebook page in the first place.

I’ve thought long and hard about it over the last few weeks, and as more people have visited this site I thought that now might be the right time to take control of my Facebook presence as a writer. It’s the same reason I actually went and bought the domain name last year. I’d rather have it now, before I really need it.

Having a Facebook author page that’s separate from my personal Facebook page will also allow me to do more on Facebook without having to accept every friend request I might get from people I don’t really know. With an author page, I can interact with other pages and other people without putting every piece of personal information I have on Facebook out there for everyone to see.

And I do realize the importance of Facebook for connecting with people online. Remember that poll I did a few weeks ago? Turns out that nearly 60% of the people who read this blog get here from Facebook. That’s a pretty good number. I still say the best way to get content from me is to subscribe via email or RSS, but of course that’s also what I find the easiest. Not so much for everyone else, I guess. No problem.

So, once again, please accept my invitation to join up and like my Facebook page (which you shouldn’t need to do since you already clicked on it when you started reading this, right?). I’ll be routing all my posts through there starting Monday. So if you want to keep getting them, that’s where I’ll be. Plus I’ve got some ideas for some fun stuff to do over there that won’t be here on the blog at all. The only way to find out what is to come on over.

See you there!
