Hurricane Irene is bearing down on us
This is what I am absolutely not feeling right now.
Yes, we’re in the path of Hurricane Irene; but we’re also about 150 miles inland.
So while the size of the storm really is really impressive…
…we in the Albany area are only looking at some higher than normal winds and a lot of rain. Could be a rough 24 hours, but I’m not expecting much worse than a prolonged large thunderstorm. We’ll see I guess.
This actually isn’t the first hurricane I’ve weathered (zing!). I was in coastal Maine in 1991 when Hurricane Bob hit. I was almost 13 at the time; and even though it did some pretty extensive damage throughout New England, I really don’t remember it being all that scary.
My advice for the rest of us here in Albany (you know, as a hurricane surviving pro and all) is this:
Let’s all act like we’ve been here before.
I hear gas stations are running out of gas and store shelves are totally empty, but we get snow storms every winter that can keep us home bound for longer than this probably will.
Just stay off the roads, keep some flashlights handy, and maybe grab a book in case your TV goes out. You’ll do fine.
