Canstruction 2011 at the New York State Museum

April 24, 2011

The other day we took my daughter and my sister’s kids to the New York State Museum. It was a fun day (and also very affordable) and we saw all kinds of cool things. Some of the coolest were upstairs though, and not in the museum itself. On the 4th floor of the museum is a large carousel which the kids went on with my sister. I, however, got to wander around a bit and when I did I came upon this:

Yes, those are Angry Birds made out of canned goods. The Food Pantries for the Capital District has put together this and many other displays as a part of Canstruction 2011. Basically teams build sculptures out of canned food to raise money, awareness, and canned goods to help fight hunger. It’s a really neat initiative so I thought I’d highlight it on the blog.

Christmas is the season for giving. But there’s hungry people at Easter as well. Keep that in mind today, and hopefully everyday going forward. Because if you don’t, these terrifying Robots might just hunt you down…

This is really interesting event! ASM Design is providing LIVE, behind-the-scene coverage of the structures as they come up in the World Financial Centre, NYC. The structures are mostly complete!
