And NFL owners want us to think they’re not greedy?
I took a look at the 2011 NFL schedule today. Normally I wouldn’t really care much about the NFL schedule – I’m not a big football fan. But this year there is a particular game on the docket (which, considering the current labor situation, may or may not even happen) that really jumped out at me: September 11th, 2011 – New York Giants at Washington Redskins.
So the two cities devastated by terror attacks on September 11th, 2001 get to duke it out on the 10 year anniversary. Really? Perhaps I’m being too critical, but it’s impossible that this is just some scheduling coincidence. To me this is the NFL finding a golden marketing opportunity in a national tragedy.
I can see it now. Jets flying over the stadium, an American flag spread out on the field, testimonials of fans who were there on that fateful day, and millions in revenue from commercials pouring in to the NFL coffers. Bravo…
