The Sun is awesome

I once got into a debate with someone about intelligent design and the effect of the Sun on life on the planet Earth. He tried to make the point that because the Sun’s energy isn’t directed at the Earth, the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics disproves evolution. My response was as follows:

That the Sun’s energy is “undirected” is a meaningless charge. The Sun’s energy is directed out from itself in all directions. Guess what? The Earth happens to fall in that range. Would you rather that all of the Sun’s energy come directly to Earth in a focused beam? I hope not, because the Earth wouldn’t last long under such conditions.

Turns out I was right.
