Obvious (mostly) baseball playoff predictions
The baseball playoffs are upon us. This is one of my favorite times of year. So, like everyone else, I’m going to tell you who I think is going to go all the way.
Division Series
Tigers vs. Yankees – No surprise here, the Yankees will beat the Tigers, probably in 4 games. the Yankees have proven that they’re the best team in the American League, and the Tiger’s play in the worst division in baseball. I doubt this will be close, Justin Verlander notwithstanding.
Rays vs. Rangers - Rangers in 5. They’re just a better team that the Rays, though probably not by much. And the Rangers have home field advantage in this round. Should be a good series.
Diamondbacks vs. Brewers - This is the only upset I see in this first round of the playoffs. I don’t think the D’backs get enough love due to their market, and I remain unimpressed by the Brewers over the long haul. D’backs in 5.
Cardinals vs. Phillies - This matchup upsets me, because I think the Cardinals are playing well enough to beat either the Diamondbacks or the Brewers. They’re playing the Phillies though. Sorry, St. Louis. Phillies in 4.
League Championship Series
Rangers vs. Yankees - I’m picking the Yankees here, though not by much. The three reasons are that the Yankees played all year in the toughest division in baseball and still came away with the best record in the AL, so they’re actually an even better team than their league leading 97 wins show. The run differential numbers that the Yankees put up are huge, they didn’t just beat teams this year, they destroyed them. And they’re playing this series at home. Yankees in 6.
Diamondbacks vs. Phillies - I think this will be the most lopsided series of the playoffs. The Phillies are that much better than every other team in the NL, and once they dispatch the Cardinals they should have little trouble with anyone else. They’re better on every level than the Diamondbacks. Phillies in 5.
World Series
Yankees vs. Phillies - This is a though one for me, because I’m such a huge Yankees fan. But as much as my heart says Yankees, my baseball head says Phillies – and that’s what I have to go with. The Phillies are the best team in all of baseball, and they’re built for the playoffs with the pitching that they have. I hate to say it, but I’m going Phillies in 6 against my beloved Yankees.
So there you have it, my playoff predictions which in the end will be just as wrong as everyone else’s. Go Yankees!!!
